Stock Futures Edge Higher as Nasdaq Sets Fresh Record
Stock futures moved slightly higher early Tuesday after the Nasdaq Composite reached a new record high in the previous session.
S&P 500 futures rose 0.11%, while Dow futures gained 76 points, or 0.15%. Nasdaq-100 futures were also up 0.15%.
In Monday’s regular session, the Nasdaq Composite climbed around 1%, marking both a new intraday record and record close. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added roughly 90 points, or 0.2%, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.7%.
AI-linked stocks were among the strongest performers. SpaceX surged more than 7%, while Nvidia and Tesla each gained over 2%. Meta Platforms and Microsoft also rose by more than 1%.
Asian markets were mixed on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.29%, while South Korea’s Kospi slipped 0.23%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 advanced 0.53%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.95%. Mainland Chinese markets remained closed for the Golden Week holiday.
Oil prices declined during Monday’s session. Brent crude fell 1.9% to settle at $100.32 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude dropped about 1.8% to $89.43. Both benchmarks were trading slightly higher early Tuesday.
U.S. Treasury yields remained a major focus for investors. The 10-year Treasury yield again reached levels not seen since 2002, moving above 5.3%. The 30-year yield also briefly climbed above 5.7%, reaching its highest level in roughly 24 years.
Bond-market volatility has remained elevated over the past six weeks. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management investment chief Lisa Shalett pointed to potential changes in Federal Reserve policy, economic growth and elevated oil prices amid the ongoing Middle East conflict as key factors.
Investors are now turning their attention to the Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes, scheduled for release Wednesday. The minutes could provide additional insight into policymakers’ decision to raise interest rates and their outlook for future monetary policy.
