OpenAI in Talks for $30 Billion Funding Round With UAE Funds and BlackRock
OpenAI is in talks with several UAE investment funds, including Abu Dhabi-based MGX, and BlackRock as it seeks to assemble a massive $30 billion funding round, highlighting the growing role of Gulf capital in the global artificial-intelligence race.
According to people familiar with the discussions, UAE funds are considering forming a consortium that could invest as much as $10 billion in OpenAI's latest financing round. MGX is among the investors involved in the discussions.
If completed, the UAE commitment would represent roughly one-third of the targeted $30 billion raise.
Global asset manager BlackRock is also reportedly discussing an investment alongside the UAE consortium. The participation would bring another major institutional investor into OpenAI's rapidly expanding capital base.
The financing remains under negotiation, so the size, investors and final terms could still change.
The scale of the proposed raise reflects the enormous cost of building advanced AI systems. OpenAI is competing in an industry requiring billions of dollars for:
The company is reportedly targeting a valuation of around $1.4 trillion, excluding the new money being raised.
The potential investment also underlines the UAE's strategy of becoming a major global AI and technology hub. Gulf sovereign and strategic investors have increasingly become important sources of capital for leading AI companies and infrastructure projects.
The proposed funding round comes as AI companies dramatically increase spending on infrastructure. OpenAI's ability to attract tens of billions of dollars from global and Middle Eastern investors signals continued confidence in the long-term commercial potential of generative AI—but it also raises questions about valuation, capital intensity and the returns required to justify enormous AI spending.
OpenAI is reportedly seeking at least $30 billion in new funding.
UAE funds, including MGX, have discussed investing up to $10 billion collectively.
BlackRock is reportedly in discussions to participate, but the deal has not been finalized
The funding round reportedly values OpenAI at approximately $1.4 trillion before the new capital
It shows how much capital is flowing into AI infrastructure, computing and model development—and how Gulf investors are becoming increasingly influential in the global AI ecosystem
