Sensex, Nifty Deep In The Red On Tariff Worries
Indian equities opened on a weak note on Tuesday after the Trump administration issued an official notice to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, effective from 12:01 a.m. EST on August 27.
In early trade, the BSE Sensex fell 573 points, or 0.70%, to 81,062, while the NSE Nifty slipped 178 points, or 0.70%, to 24,794.
Key laggards included Bajaj FinServ, ICICI Bank, BEL, HDFC Bank, Power Grid Corp, Trent, Tata Steel, and Sun Pharma, which dropped between 1-2%.
Vodafone Idea tumbled 9% after the government ruled out additional AGR relief.
IREDA shed 1.5% following the announcement of its FY26 revenue target.
Tata Motors declined nearly 1% after the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved its composite scheme of arrangement.
IndusInd Bank fell 1.2% as Rajiv Anand assumed charge as MD and CEO of the troubled lender.
Paytm dipped 1.1% after its board cleared further investments of ₹300 crore in Paytm Money and ₹155 crore in Paytm Services via a rights issue.
