Tesla Launches Six-Seater Model Y L in China, Priced From 339,000 Yuan
Tesla has unveiled a new version of its flagship Model Y in China as it steps up competition in the world’s largest electric-vehicle market.
The company announced on its Weibo account Tuesday that the six-seater Model Y L will start at 339,000 yuan ($47,182), with deliveries scheduled to begin in September. The new variant offers a range of 751 kilometers on a single charge and is slightly longer than the standard Model Y, allowing space for a third row of seats.
Tesla’s latest launch comes as the U.S. automaker faces intensifying pressure from domestic rivals such as Li Auto and Xiaomi. The Model Y L’s pricing puts it directly against Li Auto’s i8, while Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV comes in at a lower price point but enjoys strong brand loyalty.
Tesla’s sales in China have been weakening amid the competition. The company sold 67,886 units in July, down 8.4% from a year earlier, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
